Song 8 starts with a very common lick used in jazz and blues as well.
Starting on the minor 3rd then going to the major 3rd, a simple yet cool effect.
In jazz there are many notes played which technically should not fit in the scale, but they still sound good.
These notes are sometimes referred to as ‘outside’ notes. This is a great way to create tension in the soloing and then resolve it.
For example, if you are playing a line in a major scale from the 5th to the 6th you can play the #5(b6) in between these notes to make it a chromatic line.
Played by itself the #5 will sound terrible, but in between the other two notes it will create a cool line.
